Union Pacific Virtual Training Class on Respondign Safetly to Railroad Emergencies
Dear First Responder,
Union Pacific’s Hazardous Materials Management team is dedicated to working safely on all incidents and building relationships with local responders. We have teamed up with TRANSCAER to provide a virtual training class to equip first responders with the knowledge needed to respond safely to a railroad emergency. This 90 minute presentation will be repeated on successive days to accommodate multiple shifts of both career and volunteer departments.
The training will include an overview of the Union Pacific Railroad Hazardous Materials Management team as well as how to contact the railroad. We will review information that would be helpful for you and how working as a team can bring the incident to a successful conclusion. The course will also review the different types of rail cars and hazards that a first responder might encounter. Finally, the course will discuss responding safely to an incident, hazards around the railroad right-of-way, where to find needed information, and how to read and understand a train consist in order to better protect the citizens of your community.
